The replacement arrived for 2026

The CRF300F is the successor to the CRF250F, but that transition happened for the 2026 model year. Honda’s 2027 release explicitly records that history. A new 2027 listing should not be mistaken for the first appearance of the larger trail bike. This article compares the model transition using Honda documentation; it is not a riding test. [1] [3]

What the larger trail bike brings

Honda describes the CRF300F around an air-cooled, fuel-injected single-cylinder engine, electric starting, a six-speed manual transmission and an oil cooler. The 2027 release positions it for recreational trail riding. Its 21-inch front and 18-inch rear wheels and Showa suspension belong in that context: decide what riding you need the bike to do before treating the bigger number as the whole comparison. [1]

Read the whole name on the bike

CRF300F, CRF300L and CRF250R are distinct models. Honda’s current product page places this bike in its Trail category. Use the full model suffix and year when searching for a manual or ordering parts. A result headed “Honda 300” or “CRF250” may describe a different machine, which is particularly easy to miss when shopping from a search-results thumbnail. [2]

A CRF250F does not need to become a 300F

For an existing owner, start with the reason you are considering a change. Is the present bike worn, does its fit no longer suit you, or are you looking for a different kind of ride? A displacement increase cannot answer all three questions. Compare condition, service history and the cost to keep the existing bike ready before judging the replacement only by its model name.

Workshop details need model-specific confirmation

Do not transplant a CRF250F chain-slack figure, oil quantity or torque value into a CRF300F service job. Get the appropriate owner’s manual and confirm part numbers with the supplier for the exact year. If you are comparing used examples, ask which accessories are fitted and whether the original components and instructions are included. Treat unverified interchange claims as questions to resolve before ordering.

How to compare one in person

Bring a short list of your regular riding conditions, transport limitations and maintenance needs. Check physical fit with appropriate riding equipment and ask about dealer preparation, manuals and the full out-the-door cost. Honda’s brochure and model page provide a specification starting point; comfort, control feel and whether the bike suits your riding still need your own assessment. [2] [3]
